The Bias Inside Us is a community engagement project featuring a Smithsonian traveling exhibition, the centerpiece for local programs and activities that raise awareness about the science and history of bias and what people can do about it.

Meet the Artist: Angélica Daas
June 24th at 7 pm
Creator of Humanæ, a photographic project that invites viewers to recognize the similarity of humans regardless of individual differences, Angelica Daas leads a conversation about moving beyond white, red, black, or yellow skin colors to the beauty of human skin in every color.
Make Work Fair with Siri Chilazi
July 15 at 7 pm
Through evidenced based strategies, Siri Chilazi and Iris Bohnet, explore the science of fairness in the workplace. During this program, Siri will provide an overview of their three-part framework that can help make equal opportunities available to all. Get insight into any workplace, whether you’re starting out in the world, a senior employee, or striking out on your own. Copies are available to borrow from the Library.
Blindspot : Hidden Biases of Good People with Dr. Mahzarin Banaji
July 30th at 6:30 pm - Dr. Banaji will participate via Zoom
Join Dr. Mahzarin Banaji for a conversation about psychology behind the hidden biases we all carry from a lifetime of exposure to cultural attitudes
about age, gender, race, ethnicity, religion, social class, sexuality, disability status, and nationality. Get an understanding into your own mind thanks to the plain language approach to increasing awareness of our own thoughts. Copies are available to borrow from the Library.

What shaped you? In this weekly program, all ages are welcome to reflect about their assumptions of the world around them, their communiyt, and themselves, and create artistic works that explore those assumptions. The work will be compiled into a zine to celebrate and explore how we see the world around us.
