What American Girl Dolls are currently available at the Rye Free Reading Room?

American Girls Melody (1964), Maryellen (1954), and Rebecca (1914) are currently available to check out from the Rye Free Reading Room.

 

Who can borrow an American Girl doll kit?

Only cardholders of the Rye Free Reading Room with cards that are free of fees can check out an American Girl doll kit. Dolls and accessories are recommended for children ages 8 and up. Please note the doll kits contain many choking hazards and small pieces not suitable for younger children.

 

Where do I check out an American Girl doll kit?

Doll kits will be kept behind the Children’s Room reference desk. 

 

How do I borrow an American Girl doll kit?

Notify a Children’s Librarian at the Children’s Reference desk that you would like to borrow a kit. They can determine which dolls are currently available, and check the status of the library card to ensure it is in good standing before checkout. All doll kits will be checked in front of the patron for all accompanying items prior to checkout.

 

How do I return an American Girl doll kit?

American Girl dolls must be returned to a librarian at the Children’s reference desk. Dolls may not be dropped into the book drop or at another library in Westchester county. When doll kits are being returned, the librarian will check the kit for all accompanying items before checking the item in. In the event that an item is missing or broken, the patrons account will be charged accordingly.

 

How long can I borrow an American Girl doll kit?

The load period for an American Girl doll kit is 7 days. Patrons will be charged a $10/day late fee with a maximum of $70

 

Can I renew a doll kit?

No. American Girl doll kits are not eligible for renewal.

 

Can I check out two doll kits?
No. Only one doll kit per household at a time will be permitted.

 

What is included in an American Girl doll kit?

-One (1) 18 inch American Girl doll dressed in a full outfit;

-One (1) carrying case, containing doll, book, and pet(s);

-One (1) small case, containing accessories and pajamas

-One (1) journal;

-One (1) hairbrush

 

How do I take care of my doll?

Please brush and style the doll’s hair with the hairbrush provided in the kit. Do not apply makeup or cut her hair. Do not attempt to clean or launder the doll or her clothing and accessories. Please return all accessories to the designated case before returning the doll kit.

 

What should I write in the doll’s journal?

We are so excited to hear about your adventures with Melody, Maryellen, and Rebecca. Tell us all about the fun things you and the doll experienced while she was in your home. Details and pictures are encouraged.

 

What happens if a doll/accessory is lost or damaged?

Patrons will be billed the full cost of the doll if the original outfit, hair length/style or other point of item integrity is lost or damaged. Accompanying outfits will likewise be charged as a set if a component part is missing or damaged. Damaged or lost carrying cases, books, or journals will be billed to the customer at the full replacement cost of the accessory. The library will not accept customer replacements for lost or damaged dolls or accessories.
