Rita Williams-Garcia speaks about One Crazy Summer, a powerful and humorous story of three sisters who travel to Oakland, California in 1968 to meet the mother who abandoned them.

The book has been hailed as “an emotionally challenging and beautifully written (story) about ethnic identity and personal responsibility.”

Rita Williams-Garcia is the New York Times bestselling author of nine novels for young adults and middle grade readers.  Her novels have been recipients of numerous awards, including the Coretta Scott King Award, National Book Award Finalists, and the Newbery Honor.

Rye Reads is an engaging program that seeks to increase literacy and promote family and community leisure reading through unique program experiences.
