Rye Free Reading Room Book Sale returns

Browse all ages and genres of books, and find well loved treasures or new titles to explore. All proceeds go to support library programs and services.

For details on book donations, download the FAQ here.

What items can I donate to the library book sale?

You can donate any book in good condition to the book sale. We accept material for all ages and all genres.

What items do you not accept?

  • Any books that have water damage, mold damage, missing pages or are heavily marked up
  • Any books that are library discards
  • Encyclopedias
  • Reader’s Digest condensed books
  • VCR tapes or cassette tapes
  • DVDs
  • CDs
  • Magazines
  • Phone books
  • Computer books older than 5 years

Where can I donate my items?

Items for the book sale can be dropped off in the yellow wooden house on the lower level, or left immediately in front of the house, if they are already boxed up. The library will not be able to return boxes or bags that are left with donations.

Please do not donate items through the library book return slot.

Are my book donations tax deductible?

Your donation is tax deductible. We will provide a letter acknowledging receipt of donated items upon request. Determination of quantity and value are the responsibility of the donor alone.
