Learning League

Join the Learning League and become a Homework Hero!

The Learning League will provide daily homework help followed by additional academic support and activities in reading, writing and math.  Students earn monthly prizes and awards to recognize and celebrate their commitment to learning.  All materials, including folders and t-shirts will be provided.  Small groups and personalized support is coordinated with the Rye School District curriculum and will be run by NYS Certified educators.   Registration required.  Program is limited to 30 students per day, Grades 2 or 3 only.

Students may register for any day Monday – Thursday.  Register once for the day(s) selected and your seat will be reserved for the entire school year.  For example, to register for Monday afternoons, register for one Monday session only and you will automatically be registered for every other Monday through the end of the school year.

Q. What is the Learning League?
A. The Learning League provides daily homework help followed by additional academic support and activities in reading, writing and math. Small groups and personalized support is coordinated with the Rye School District curriculum and will be run by NYS Certified educators. Learning League instructors will help your child complete their homework assignments. If they do not have homework or did not bring it with them, your child will be engaged in other academically challenging activities. All enrichment materials are provided.

Q. Who is eligible for the Learning League?
A. The Learning league is open to all children who reside in the Rye City School District and are enrolled in 2nd or 3rd grade. Children must obtain a library card from the Rye Free Reading Room before October 1st. Library card are available online here.

Q. How do I register my child for the Learning League?
A. Complete the online sign up form on the library’s calendar here. After completing that form, you will receive the enrollment form via e-mail. For admission the parents must complete and sign the Enrollment Forms (3 forms). No child can be admitted to the program unless all forms have been submitted.

Q. What if my child is unable to attend the program?
A If your child will be absent from Learning League, you must call Laura Pellegrini, Program Manager at (914) 274-7831 by 11:00 AM on the day of the absence. The following protocols will be imposed regarding absences:

  • FIRST time missing: First Reminder
  • SECOND time missing: Second Reminder
  • THIRD time missing: After the third absence, the child will be dismissed from the program.

Q. How long does the Learning League run?
A. Learning League runs from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. Learning League does not operate on days when the Rye City School District is closed. . Learning League CLOSES AT 5:30 daily, and all children must be picked up by 5:30PM. The following protocols will be imposed after 5:30PM:

  • FIRST time late: First Reminder
  • SECOND time late: Second Reminder
  • THIRD time late: After the third time late, the child will be dismissed from the program.

Q. Who may pick-up my child?
A. All children must be picked up by the parent who has registered the child or by an individual designated on the Parent Consent Form, or by another individual authorized by the parent, provided the parent has notified the Director, Office Manager, or Teacher-in-charge. We request this authorization in writing and ID is required at the time of pick up. Parents must provide an emergency name and telephone number. A person who must be available to pick up the child when necessary, even in snowy weather.

Q. Are snacks provided?
A. Learning League does not provide a healthy snack daily, but children may bring their own. Please indicate on the registration form if there are any food allergies, so we can inform other parents of food restrictions.

Q. Does Learning League administer medication?
A. Learning League may not administer medication of any kind

Q. Why I am being asked to sign a media release form?
A. Learning League recognizes the need to protect our children and request consent to photograph the children during our special events. Learning League will take all steps to ensure these images are used solely for the purposes they are intended. Images will be used for promotional or fundraising purposes for the Rye Free Reading Room.
