The Osborn’s art program is available to all residents who love to paint or would like to learn. The class is taught by Christine Elmore, who has a BA, Fine Arts from Purchase College. Her teaching approaches art from different perspectives, whether it is still life, photographs or working from the Masters. The most common medium used is oil and pastels and watercolors are offered. The Artists Showcase, scheduled to open on January 5, 2011, is the first public showing of the works of Osborn residents. The exhibition will feature the works of these residents: Mrs. Marion Albright, Mrs. Adrienne Bonda, Mrs. Janet Hohn, Mrs. Rose Nackman, Mrs. Dorothy Peisinger, Mr. Matthew Ruisi, Mrs. Naomi Sacks, Mrs. Barbara Ucci and Mrs. Jane Waters.
About The Osborn Art Studio
The Art Studio at The Osborn was made possible by a grant from the Horace W. Goldsmith Foundation by the family of Paul Theodore Arlt, a former Osborn resident. Mr. and Mrs. Arlt moved to The Osborn on Sept. 11, 2001. Mr. Arlt studied painting at Greenwich House, a pioneering settlement house, and art school in Greenwich Village. He moved to Washington in 1934 and studied at the Corcoran Gallery of Art with Samuel Burtis Baker and Eugen Weisz and later with C. Law Watkins at the Phillips Gallery School of Art. From 1951—1956 he was an editorial cartoonist for the New York Herald Tribune and later, worked as an art editor. In 1965, he was commissioned by NASA to depict the Gemini launch and today his works are in the Kennedy Space Center and the National Air and Space Museum. His “Saturday in Enterprise” hangs in the Enterprise Public Library.
