An author and breast cancer survivor, Diane Tropea Greene speaks extensively on a variety of breast cancer issues, including genetic testing. Her family’s story has been featured in local and national media, including the emmy-nominated report, “A Sisters Story,” on News 12 Long Island.  Her recently published book, Apron Strings: Inheriting Courage, Wisdom, and…Breast Cancer chronicles her family’s courageous multi-generation battle with genetic breast cancer.

After watching breast cancer strike and kill her mother and all her siblings (including one man), before moving down into her generation, it became painfully obvious to Diane Tropea Green that her family needed to explore the possibility of a genetic connection. When she and four cousins were ultimately diagnosed, the fear turned into pure terror!  Apron Strings is one family’s story of hope and survival against seemingly insurmountable odds.

Diane’s presentation will discuss the role breast cancer played in her family beginning with her mother’s generation; how her generation came to know and understand their own risk; choices that were made upon learning their genetic status; and what we learned from the courage of our ancestors.
